About Us
The Charter of the bank at Armour dates back to 1906. First known as the Security State bank of Ethan, SD, the bank was then converted to First National Bank of Ethan on November 3, 1931. The Charter was transferred to Armour on July 30, 1937 as First National Bank of Armour. First National Bank of Armour was then converted to First State Bank of Armour on January 1, 1960.
On May 1, 1966, First State Bank purchased Delmont State Bank. In 1977 a new bank building was built at the Delmont Branch.
In November of 1984 the Winter Family sold First State Bank to H. Lauren Lewis, Allen L. Lewis and Paul Jay Lewis. First State Bank purchased Dakota State Bank of Tripp and Security State Bank of Geddes in 1986 and 1989, respectively. Jerry Altenburg currently serves as President of First State Bank.
First State Bank is proud of our 100+ years in business and that we are an independently family owned bank. We have a full-service insurance agency in each of the four locations. First State Banks motto is “A Bank Built by Customers.”
